2007 Treasure Hunt II - Today’s clue

If you’re thinking big you’re sure to dig
Near flora with growing pain
Winter or summer is never a bummer
A menagerie of fun wild or tame

If you’re thinking big you’re sure to dig

Thinking “big,” as in, optimistically, or as in, “Ha ha! We chucked it in a rotting carcass in the middle of a huge swamp! Have fun!”

plausible info: region

Near flora with growing pain

Now here’s one that’s got my thinking cap overheating. Two ideas for you:

A common reference to plant life and “growing pain” is with the matter of dealing with invasive weeds. A perfect hiding spot, no? On one hand the medallion will be provided dense cover, and on the other hand they’ll all be completely trampled for easy cleanup in the spring.

Also, for you deep thinkers, ‘Growing Pains’ was the name of a track on past-prime local band Soul Asylum album Made to be Broken. I don’t usually take such tall ideas seriously but there’s always the chance for impressively difficult clue explanations.

Clue #1

Congrats to the finder, to all a reminder
To hunt hard from first to last clues
Medallion I is history. Now a new mystery
Begins—strap on your hunting shoes

To some its demented, for all unprecedented
But hunters’ thirst must be quenched
Tell sister and brother we’ve hidden another
In a park where a body can be benched

Our 2nd prize? Don’t laugh—10-thou cut in half
So get out there even if it’s snowy
And as a special bonus—some might say an onus—A meal with our own Clueless Joey

Good hunting to you, let this be the first clue
Think of a woodsy retreat
It won’t be so hard if you channel the bard
You’ll get warm and smell pretty sweet

Here’s how I got this to relate to como, keeping it relatively vague and simple, it is an early clue:
think big = como is a big park
Near flora = conservatory
growing pain? I dunno, reference to how much of a pain in the ass it’ll be to find it in como?
Winter or summer never a bummer = conservatory and zoo open all year round
menagiere of fun wild and tame = again zoo, or conservatory

THis one also works for Central park, they have a conservatory, and a rescue program for birds, which could be the flora and growing pains.

However, according to Joe, they had the medallian there before and central park got tore up to hell and Roseville said they never wanted the medallian hidden there again. Also the park closes at 10pm or so and everyone gets kick out by cops… dunno if that makes it a very good choice for parks.

If the medallion is in Central park, by the way, the park won’t close at night. That was and remains a crucial test to see if it’s in Phalen or not and apparently it was one of the reasons Hidden Falls South was pursued; I’ve been told but haven’t verified that the South end of Hidden Falls is usually closed for the winter.
